[WATCH] Town abuzz as grant beneficiaries queue

Grant beneficiaries have until Friday, 3 April to complete their shopping

MOKOPANE – The last day of SASSA grant collection on 1 April, resulted in an extremely busy and crowded day in town.

Grant beneficiaries have until Friday, 3 April to complete their shopping and people filled super markets and butcheries, some still going about business as usual and not adhering to the set rule of social distancing. Bosveld drove through the streets again on 2 April and could not find a decrease in residents piling up in front of businesses or the banks as not all residents have received their grants in the prescribed time.

The Department of Justice has issued a set of fines should the residents not adhere to the rules set out in preventing the spread of Covid-19.
The failure to confine oneself to one’s place of residents and failure to present a permit to perform essential services when required is a fine of R2 000 while you can pay up to R5 000 for an illegal gathering
