TUT crowned champions of softball tournament

The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Pretoria women's softball team are the winners of the Women's Month celebration softball tournament, which was held at the Polokwane Cricket Club on Saturday.

POLOKWANE – The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Pretoria women’s softball team are the winners of the Women’s Month celebration softball tournament, which was held at the Polokwane Cricket Club on Saturday.

Eleven teams participated in this annual tournament, which aimed to honour women. The tournament was hosted by Limpopo Softball Association.

Mahwelereng Spikes softball team are the 2013 champions. They obtained third place, while Naledi Spiders were in second place. Jankies Seakamela, provincial women’s softball coordinator, said this was the first time Botlokwa Angels and TUT took part in the tournament.

“Botlokwa played very well and I think they deserve to be acknowledged. They stand a good chance of being champions in the future,” said Seakamela.

Individual awards:

• Raisibe Matsimela (Naledi Spiders) – best batter.

• Joulef Ngele (TUT) – best fielder.

• Ledia Thoka (Botlokwa Angels) – best pitcher.

• Relebogile Mohloa (TUT) – best catcher.

• Petunia Kgohloane (Mabins softball) – promising player.
