Haggai place 3rd in Danone finals

Haggai Combined School finished third in the Danone u/12 national finals held in Reiger Park over the weekend.

LIMPOPO – This being their first time in the competition, Haggai showed character and determination. They beat Mamitlwa Primary School 1-0 and played draw in the remaining three matches: they played a 0-0 draw against Mophela Primary School and a 1-1 draw against both Phaphama Public School and Idas Valley Primary School.

They finished third in the competition. The coach of the team, Justice Matloga, said his boys played well in the national finals and didn’t lose any games. He said the team played well but were over-excited in the semifinals.

The team received tremendous support from the principal and teachers of Haggai.

“Attending the national finals made a big difference, it boosted the boys’ confidence and motivation,” he said.

Mophela Primary School from KwaZulu-Natal was crowned the 2017 champions after beating Sekusile Primary School from Mpumalanga, making them not only the victors of the tournament but also the team that will represent South Africa in the World finals that will be held at Red Bull Arena, New York in September.

Last year, Benny’s Care Academy from Limpopo represented South Africa in the Danone u/12 World Cup held in France.
