Mantashe issues stern warning to PEC members
ANC Secretary-General, Gwede Mantashe issued a letter ordering Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) members not to make themselves eligible for positions at the party's regional elective conferences.
LIMPOPO – This statement has placed Vhembe Mayor, Florence Radzilani, in a dilemma as both Radzilani, along with former Thulamela Municipal Manager, Makonde Mathivha, are said to be contesting for positions on regional level.
A source within the ANC in the Vhembe region said Radzilani had already announced stepping down to avoid defying the communique from the ANC, but last weekend decided to return to the election race after Andile Lungisa, a PEC member in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality was elected chairperson of the region in Nelson Mandela Bay and the decision endorsed by the ANC President, Jacob Zuma, on Sunday.
According to a source within the ANCYL ranks, Radzilani will stand as chairperson until the National Executive Committee takes a decision.
Her deputy is Dowelani Nengudza, while the secretary is Tshitereke Matibe (former Vhembe Mayor), deputy secretary Anderson Mudunungu and treasurer, Moses Big Moss Makhubele.
Makonde Mathivha’s group is deputised by Khathu Netshifhefhe who is the current regional secretary, while the secretary would be David Mutavhatsindi (former Makhado Mayor), deputy secretary Moses Tseli, and Joyce Bila, Mayor of Lim 345, as treasurer.
Asked for comment, Radzilani said the processes around the elective conferences have already started and it is time for branches to nominate their leaders.
“According to organisational process, you accept or decline a nomination. People must just be patient and wait for the conference,” said Radzilani.
According to Mantashe, Lungisa would be dealt with “through the mechanisms of the party”.
