Murdered girl (10) laid to rest

The funeral of the 10-year-old Zanele Shirinda was an emotional affair for all at Homu 14C village.

LIMPOPO – Zanele was a Gr 4 learner at MK Khambani Primary School and was reported missing after going to buy airtime on Monday, 5 September. She was found murdered and buried in a shallow grave by the community on Thursday, 8 September.

She was found by the Community Policing Forum (CPF) who embarked on a search for her when her uncle, realised she was not at a friend’s house and was indeed missing.

WO Thomas Makhubele said a special task team was investigating the murder and could not comment on the cause of death.

Mopani District Municipality Mayor, Nkakareng Ragoale and Greater Giyani Mayor Sasavona Mathebula recently visited the family and offered financial assistance towards the funeral arrangements.

The death of Zanele has had a ripple effect on the community and her friends are struggling to come to terms with the violent death of their fellow learner. Zanele has been described as a smart learner with a bright future and her death is a loss that shook the community.

The Ward Councillor of Ngove village in Giyani, Christopher Rikhotso, condemned violent crimes against children and men raping children to cure themselves of HIV/aids.

Makhubele urged anyone with information relating to the crime and investigation to report such to their nearest police station.

Family Spokesperson, Yuza Masuluke, Zanele’s uncle, said the family was struggling to deal with the loss and they hope the culprits are brought to book for their crimes.
