Big plans for Baroka FC

Baroka FC head coach, Kgoloko Thobejane, confidently says the newly-promoted side will send shock waves through the Absa Premiership in their first season

POLOKWANE – That might sound over ambitious, but the Ga-Mphahlele side have a resounding reputation of upsetting bigger clubs when it matters.

Baroka caused heartache for many teams in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) during their run in this year’s Nedbank Cup campaign when they beat Chippa United, Lamontville Golden Arrows and Polokwane City, before they were stopped by the Nedbank Cup champions SuperSport United in the semi-finals.

Thobejane, who was sure Baroka would win the Nedbank Cup, has dropped another bomb by saying the Limpopo club will win the league this coming season and they won’t stop there. He predicts that his side will stay in the PSL for many years to come.

“Baroka will win the league and the cup next season, we are not going anywhere, we are here to stay. One hundred years from now Baroka will still be in the PSL. That is how confident I am in my team,” says Thobejane.

“I believe in myself and I believe in the players. I don’t believe in big names. Even if all these players leave, we will have another set of players to take their spots. I reiterate, I don’t believe in names, I believe in what I’m working with, that is why I’m saying we will stay in the PSL”.

While the club will say goodbye to NFD top scorer Thabiso Kutumela, who has been signed to Orlando Pirates, Thobejane says he is keen to retain the services of Jacky Motshegwa and Sphamandla Sangweni.

Both players helped to promote the team while on loan from Orlando Pirates.

“Maybe Baroka FC management can convince the management of Pirates that we still need them for this season,” he concluded.
