Vuwani residents refuse to meet with minister

The minister for state security, David Mahlobo visited Vuwani yesterday, however, the community refused to meet with him

LIMPOPO – Although the community did not want to meet with Mahlobo, he helped the police to clear the streets of Vuwani and surrounding villages.

Mahlobo condemned the burning of schools, and said he wanted to see life go back to normal, with children going back to school.

However, the community refused to meet with Mahlobo, saying he wanted “to brainwash them”.

“We want president Jacob Zuma to meet with king Toni Mphephu Ramabulana, and if he ignores us, we will never cooperate with Minister Mahlobo,” said the community.

Residents said they would continue to protest if the Municipal Demarcation Board did not reverse its decision to incorporate them into the new municipality.

“The ANC used to tell us that they are leading a government of the people, but now they don’t want to listen to us. If the ANC is dictating us, we are still going to do the so called “Passive resistance”. We are happy in Makhado, and we have never requested the Municipal Demarcation Board and the ANC to take the decision for us,” they said.

Mahlobo said he still needed to meet with the community as there was a task team working hand in hand with the Municipal Demarcation Board and the Vhembe District Municipality on the issue of the newly formed municipality.
