3 in docks for possession of rhino horn, unlicensed firearm

Three suspects nabbed in Klaserie Nature Reserve in Hoedspruit

LIMPOPO – Three suspects were arrested in Klaserie Nature Reserve in Hoedspruit yesterday (Tuesday) for the possession of a rhino horn, and unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

According to provincial police spokesperson, Lt Col Ronel Otto, a ranger heard a gun shot around 14:00 yesterday afternoon.

“They followed the tracks and found three suspects in possession of an unlicensed hunting rifle, six rounds of live ammunition and an empty cartridge, as well as the rhino horn,” said Otto.

The suspects, one South African and two Mozambican nationals were apprehended and handed over to the police, who formally arrested them.

They will appear in the Hoedspruit Magistrate’s Court today.
