Always be mindful of that one voice

See, in our modern day, we have so many voices competing for our attention

POLOKWANE – In the Gospels we find the account of Jesus being baptised, and as He comes up out of the water, He receives the Holy Spirit who rests on Him in the form of a dove.

After this He experiences the one thing all men crave; the affirmation of His Father who announces: “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased”; Wow!

Jesus, after this event then gets led into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit, and the Bible recalls that He comes out of the wilderness in the “Power of the Holy Spirit”.

He now begins a ministry of healing the sick, cleansing the lepers, raising the dead and casting out demons and so on and so on. Now, I am sure that we all who read the Bible have had these dreams of being like Jesus.

Walking like Him; having confidence like Him; making bold statements that you can accomplish, so why is it that we can’t or at least battle to live as powerfully as Jesus did?

Well, I believe we can write a whole host of reasons, but one key reason stands out for me. Jesus was only interested and was only led by “One Voice” – the voice of God.
See, in our modern day, we have so many voices competing for our attention. Television, radio, friends, Facebook, economics, world views and so on and so forth.

It is no wonder that we are like waves, thrown and tossed about by every wind, doctrine and thought. It is no wonder that we battle to make decisions, have faith or are able to stand our ground when the Goliaths of our days scream loud.

Jesus knew who He was and what He was to accomplish because He knew His Father and He knew what His Father said about Him.  He was only mindful of that “One Voice”.

May we also shut out all the other voices competing for our attention and only allow the “One Voice”, the only voice that actually matters; the Voice of God our Father, to dictate how we should live our lives.
