Hawks to attach assets of former state accountant

The Hawks will continue to attach the assets of a former department of health senior accountant, who was arrested for tender corruption

POLOKWANE – Gordon Monye was arrested in 2013 along with five former department employees, and his family members for money laundering, fraud and corruption to the value of R14 million.

He was released on R20 000 bail.

According to Hawks spokesperson, Lt Matimba Maluleke, they had already attached his assets in Middleburg, and would attach more in Mokopane.

“We will look at property and other assets that he owns to get back some of the money stolen from the department. The assets which are already attached include a house with its furniture, two other houses which are under construction, and one car,” said Maluleke.

“The estimated value of the attached assets is R4,5 million,” he added.

Monye will appear before the Polokwane High Court on 28 June.
