Lim schools are one step closer to Danone Nations Cup success

The process of selecting the school that will represent South Africa at the Danone Nations Cup world finals is underway

POLOKWANE – The nine provincial champions will compete in the national play-offs in Boksburg in June for the national crown and the chance to represent the country at the world finals in France in October.

Limpopo is nearing the completion of their regional finals in preparation for the provincial finals to be staged at Noorderland High School in Polokwane on 30 April.

The province’s five regional champions will be in action on that day, and three of them have already been determined. They are Thapola A Nkola Primary School (Mopane), Benny’s Sport Development and Academy (Vhembe), and Sekakate Primary School (Sekhukhune).

Benny’s Sports Development and Academy will play in the provincial finals for the third time. They previously competed in 2013 and 2015, winning the title both times, but not managing to win the nationals. They hope that this will be their year and the first team to represent Limpopo in the world finals.

This is the first time that Sekakate Primary School has qualified for the provincial finals. At the provincial finals, their biggest challenge will probably come from Benny’s Sport.

“There’s a chance that Benny’s will spot a player or two and scout them, which would be a good thing because it would be an opportunity for them to better their lives,” said Coach Douglas Magabane.

“The feeling at the school is that this tournament is fantastic because it gives the children something to look forward to and encourages them to be competitive, which is important as it teaches them to strive to do better,” Magabane explained.

Thapola A Nkola Primary School will be representing Mopani at the provincials, who last played in the 2013 provincial finals, but were knocked out by Benny’s in the final match, a score they want to settle said Coach and Manager, Jones Letsoalo.
