LIMPOPO – The Gr 12 learners of the M.E. Makgato Secondary School looked elegantly classy at their matric farewell dance last Friday at Mahlatse Lodge.

According to the organiser of the farewell, Nontombi Manabile, the matrics had definitely earned the glorious evening because the school management team are very satisfied with the way they behaved during the year. “We hope this group will increase the school’s matric pass rate.

“The idea was to encourage them to study hard. This is a goodbye to them, we want them to enjoy their last day at school in style. We hope that wherever they go, they will behave and take care of themselves. This is another way of wishing them good luck with their final examination,” said Manabile.

The president of the representative council of learners, Mmamabudusha Thema, told fellow matriculants to not view the matric dance as a form of entertainment only, but also an engagement and preparation towards the Gr 12 final examination.

“After all the years we have been learners our education is just about to start. After matric we are set to venture into different life paths. More challenges are yet to be discovered.

“We must accept finite disappointment in those moments, but never lose infinite hope as faith symbolises taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase. “Remember that you are your own enemy. It is with the boundaries you set yourself that limitations arise and dreams fail to be met,” added Thema.

“Education is not the turmoil and exhausting concept you imagine it to be. With time, passion, devotion, goals and love, you have the kick start you need, after all success is 100% goal- orientated,” she concluded.

Phenyo Makwela said she had a wonderful night. “The matric dance means a lot to me – it motivates me to study hard. It serves as motivation for us to take our studies seriously because we want to achieve the pass rate we have been asked for by our principal. This is a goodbye to our fellow students.”
