Community burn truck, mobile rooms

The angry residents blocked the roads with stones and a public phone container.

LIMPOPO – Mobile rooms as well as a truck belonging to a private company were set alight by an angry community in the Sekhukhune District on Wednesday, reports the police.

According to provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto, “it all started when police rescued a suspect who was being assaulted. The community accused him of assault with grievous bodily harm.”

The angry residents blocked the roads in Nebo with stones and a public phone container. A truck was also set alight says Otto.

“The violence spread to nearby Glen Cowie where mobile rooms of a nursing school at St Ritas Hospital were burnt down.”

They are complaining that only people from Polokwane are in that school while the youth around the school are suffering explained Otto.

No injuries were reported. No arrests yet. POP members deployed to the area.

The situation in the area is calm this morning concludes Otto.
