‘Vuwani shutdown to continue’ warns Pro-Makaho spokesperson
Spokesperson for the Pro-Makhado Demarcation Task team, Arnold Mulaudzi says the protest has been called off due to funerals in the area.
LIMPOPO – Six traditional councils representing more than 100 villages in and around the Vuwani area have decided to take the municipal demarcation board (MDB) to the Northern Gauteng high court to reverse their decision of establishing a new municipality.
Spokesperson for the concerned traditional council, Chief Livhuwani “Nkhiphitheni” Matsila said they are also applying for an interdict against the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to stop implementing the MDB’s decision, pending the outcome of the high court.
“We will be requesting the high court to review and set aside the MDB’s decision to establish the new municipality.
Villages like Masakona and Mashau were shocked to hear on radio that they are also falling under the new municipality and they were never consulted regarding this decision.
Spokesperson for the Pro-Makhado Demarcation Task team, Arnold Mulaudzi said the protest has been call off, because of a funeral tomorrow (Saturday). “On Sunday, we will continue with a total shut down of the area” said Mulaudzi.
