LIMPOPO – Two hardware stores were broken into and set alight in Vuwani last night following protest action by residents.
The residents are objecting to the merger with the newly proposed Malamulele municipality.
According to provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto, break ins at two liquor stores and a butchery were also reported.
“One suspect was arrested for possession of suspected stolen property after being found in possession of liquor stolen from the shop,” said Otto.
She added that the situation was currently quiet, with no further incidents reported.
“However, several roads in and around the town are still blocked. Travelllers are still advised to use alternative routes if possible. The police are still patrolling the area and monitoring the situation.”
