LIMPOPO – “I was raised in a family that has a lot of musical talent, so at a very young age I was exposed to music,” these are the words of Mahlatse Ceezona Bilankulu (22) from Giyani.

Ceezona holds a Diploma in electrical engineering and computers from Brooklyn College.

“I got more involved with music when I joined the Outspoken church band in 2009. In 2010 I decided to take music more seriously, and that year I linked up with a musician who introduced me to my current music producer, Nate Ntsanwisi. I have worked on my music ever since, but at some stage due to school, I had to move to Johannesburg to further my studies,” explained Ceezona.

He said this delayed his progress as he was no longer focused on just music.

“We reunited with my producer in 2012 and decided to pick up where we left off. I decided put the old projects on hold and start work on new music, that is when the bigger picture started to unfold. I had the opportunity to work with artists like Da Capo, Brazo Wa Afrika, and Vick Mash. I have also had the opportunity to share the stage with Donald, Zakes Bantwini, Dream Team, and Naaqmusiq.

“This led to my acknowledgement by a company called Waptrendz to an extent where I was endorsed and made brand ambassador. I also had the privilege of having TLK Photography as my personal photographer. I have currently released a single called #Heyahey produced by Nate Ntsanwisi which currently makes waves on radio stations. We also had the privilege to shoot a music video with Studio Space Pictures (SSP) which was sponsored by Thandabantu Lodge and Waptrendz which will be released soon.”

He further said there are times when people around him would discourage him, praying for his downfall.

“All of this I survived because of God, my family, my producer, loyal friends and the Ceezona music entertainment crew. My goal is to become an internationally recognised artist, and change people’s lives through music.

“I was motivated by the fear of being average. Artists like Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, Anthony Hamilton, 2Pac, Beyoncé and Chris Brown inspired me. Locally I have always been inspired by HHP, DJ Christos, Black Coffee, Zakes Bantwini, Zion from Liquid deep and Mi Casa. Currently I am motivated by Casper Nyovest, his belief and faith in God drives me.”

Ceezona advised youths to first find God and then find themselves.

“Nothing is impossible if you believe in God and your talents,” he concluded.
