POLOKWANE – BRAND South Africa held a roundtable meeting with stakeholders at the Fusion Boutique Hotel in Polokwane recently.

The meeting was aimed at assessing Limpopo’s geographic location when it comes to promoting South Africa as a brand.

Brand South Africa’s research general manager, Petrus de Kock, said Limpopo as a province was an essential tool to attract investors.

“What makes Limpopo important is not just that it is one of the nine provinces, but that it is a key strategic province in the country, De Kock said.

Brand SA would like to play a role in realising that goal to its full potential. Its managers engaged different stakeholders which included the Limpopo tourism agency, government departments such as transport and the Polokwane Municipality. During the meeting, De Kock further said that the possibilities were endless in exploiting the province’s strategic location.

“If you look at the logistic potential, the development potential in the province is big,” said De Kock.

On the national front, South Africa is now at a much better position to promote its attractiveness as a destination for investment.

This has been attributed to a growing domestic tourism industry as well as the transfer of skills which has led to growth in some economic sectors.

This is according to Brand South Africa. A research programme by Brand South Africa, which aims to instill a sense of patriotism among South Africans, indicates more and more people are now optimistic about future prospects.

Brand SA gathered some of its research by bringing in different people to participate in a questionnaire about South African products and services.

Outcomes by the majority of respondents show that people believe that South Africa has made progress over the last 10 years. Some of the fields that many believe have improved include education, religious tolerance, public transportation infrastructure, housing and improved access to medical facilities and treatment thereof.

Some of the key concerns however, include crime, corruption, and lack of employment opportunities.
