LIMPOPO – THE Limpopo Education Roadshow (LER), an education outreach programme, held a workshop in Giyani recently.

The roadshow, initiated by Noelle Ngobeni through the dadfund, aimed to increase the pass rate in schools in order to see learners pass well enough to be able to enrol at institutions of higher learning.

“We ignite a passion for education, excellence and personal achievement in learners though the encouragement of further education by sharing our own journeys,” explained Ngobeni.

With a team comprising Thembani Furumele, Ntshembo Ngobeni, Nsuku Shibambo, Phunyuka Ngwenya, Nana Ntshani and Fumani Mashau, who are all from a township or rural background and have previous experience as university students, they want young people from previously disadvantaged or marginalised communities to be driven to move out of their current circumstances and achieve beyond what their circumstances dictate to them.

“Furthermore, we instill the proven fact that education can break the cycle of poverty, as well as use education and other educated people to encourage learners to acquire more than a matric certificate. The programme hosts workshops in rural and township schools around Limpopo. The workshops are facilitated by university students from those same areas in order to allow learners to be able to relate to them and to look up to them as role models. Learners are provided with information on the kinds of opportunities available and are also helped to access online and physical application forms from various institutions, bursary application forms, as well as financial aid forms,” said Ngobeni.

The roadshow started in Giyani with a three-day workshop.

It will then move to Ba-Phalaborwa, Maruleng, Tzaneen and Greater Letaba Municipalities before expanding to Sekhukhune, Vhembe, Capricorn and Waterberg District Municipalities.
