Five Limpopo prisoners escape from cells

Limpopo police are looking for five awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from the Ritavi police station holding cells on Monday evening.

LIMPOPO – Five awaiting trial prisoners have escaped from the Ritavi  police station holding cells on Monday(yesterday) evening.

“The five men escaped after cutting through the mesh wires of the excercise room,” said provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto.

The five suspects have been identified as Lazarus Moseamedi, Stanley Sipho Nkwana, Kgomotso Mokhabudi, Rufus Mkhawana and Dumisani Nukiwe Khosa.

Moseamedi was initially arrested for the murder and attempted murder of a police officers and several cases of armed robbery.

Nkwana was arrested for attempted murder, Kgomotso Mokhabudi for murder, robbery and vehicle theft.

Rufus Mkhawana for rape, robbery and assault and Dumisani Nukiwe Khosa arrested for rape.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in the province, Lt Genl Fannie Masemola has launched and urgent and in depth investigation into the circumstances around the escape.

” If we find that there was any negligence or operational procedures not being followed by our members, internal departmental steps will immediately taken,” he said.
