Let Lekkersweet’s hot track keep you warm

HIP hop and new age kwaito artist, Xinyata Nthoke (25) says with his new single, Fukutja, he wants to keep his fans warm throughout winter.

LIMPOPO – HIP hop and new age kwaito artist, Xinyata Nthoke (25) says with his new single, Fukutja, he wants to keep his fans warm throughout winter.

Nthoke, better known as Lekkersweet, was born in Dichosing, Bolobedu. He completed matric in 2007 and furthered his studies at the University of Limpopo, where he studied media and communications studies.

Lekkersweet started writing his own songs at the early age of eight and that’s where he developed his love for music and learned more about music.

“My first hip hop album was recorded and released in 2008, where I rapped in Sepedi, English, Xitsonga and Khelobedu,” he says.

By then he had only one song in khelobedu, Khwabadhedja. His music took a different path when he enrolled at the University of Limpopo in 2009.

“My second album was supposed to be released later in 2009, but it was postponed to 2011 due to my studies,” he says.

In 2010, he performed in Delaware in the US, while in an English and leadership course.

“After performing Khwabadhedja several times in Turfloop and Polokwane, I then decided to use khelobedu as a main language for my music and this inspired me a lot to start writing more hip hop songs in my language,” he says.

Lekkersweet was nominated in the South African Traditional Music Achievement Awards in 2013 for best vernacular hip hop album, competing with the likes of Tuks Senganga, Shugasmakx and MC Tshatha ft Moja-Pooh.

His music has enjoyed airplay on radio stations such as Thobela FM, Capricorn FM, Radio Turf, Sekgosese FM, GTFM and Moletji FM and he has shared the stage with Mshoza, Tuks Senganga, Khuli Chana, Lesego, Thebe. Bhudaza, Rhythmic Elements and Candy.
