LIMPOPO – THE worrying prevalence of substance abuse in the province has forced a group of concerned people in Mokopane to form an organisation with the primary objective being to rehabilitate drug addicts.

Joseph Dlamini, the founder of Dark Restoration Organisation, says the pervasiveness of nyaope, dagga and other illegal drugs had forced them to establish their organisation in a bid to curb the abuse of these illegal substances.

“We have witnessed with deep concern the prevalence of the dangerous substance (nyaope) in our neighbourhood and decided to do something about this social ill.

“We could not fold our arms and stand by seeing young people destroying their lives like this.

“These nyaope addicts are always loitering around big retail stores asking shoppers for money to buy these harmful substances.

“They have no future as some of them have already dropped out of school.”

Social development spokesperson, Adéle van der Linde, said the department was highly concerned about the widespread use of banned substances among the youth.

“We strongly discourage this trend as it has a negative impact on society as a whole.”
