Lim police official overpowered, six escape

Monday (yesterday) afternoon at 16:25 an inmate being escorted from Malamulele court overpowered and robbed a police official of a state vehicle.

LIMPOPO – Tuesday (yesterday) afternoon at 16:25 an inmate being escorted from Malamulele court overpowered and robbed a police official of a state vehicle.

According to provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto, five prisoners facing charges ranging from murder, theft and assault awaiting trial escaped.

A sixth suspect who attempted to escape was arrested immediately and taken into back to the holding cells.

The five men who escaped are David Madala Mhlongo, Cliff Sithole, Lucas Siweya, Manuel Thembi Simango and Bernard Ndove.

The vehicle was later found abandoned 25km from the scene at Tovhohane village, west of Malamulele.

Bernard Ndove, who was facing a murder charge handed himself over at the Malamulele police station that same evening.

The circumstances surrounding the escape are under investigation.

The search for the remaining four continued on Wednesday morning.
