LIMPOPO – FARISANI Community Crèche in Folovhodwe-Tshikhudini village outside Mutale recently received assistance with the donation of R80 000 from the Limpopo Voluntary Group Scheme Board in conjunction with Old Mutual Thohoyandou.

The donation also included chairs, a water tank, fridge, a computer and printer and a trampoline.

“The generous donation is warmly welcome as the children used to sit on the floor of the one-roomed building,” said the principal, Olga Mulabisani.

Mulabisani said the crèche opened in 2007 to help care for the young children when their parents went to look for work.

They currently have 35 children in their care.

“We are thankful to the Good Samaritans who have helped us with the much needed items,” Mulabisani added.

Bongise Shimange of Limpopo Voluntary Group Scheme Board said the board funded crèches and pre-schools as they were the foundation phase of education.

“We also fund previously disadvantaged and impoverished communities and Folovhodwe-Tshikhudini was one of the 15 rural community projects we have funded so far. Our board also aims to alleviate poverty through funding the educational needs of poor children and communities,” said Shimange.

Shimange urged the teachers to take care of the donated items.

Godfrey Nemavhola, Old Mutual Thohoyandou group scheme manager, said one of the company’s social responsibilities was to plough back to communities .

“Children are our future leaders and if we nurture them well, we will have good leaders of tomorrow.

“We also empower deep rural communities with funds for community and development projects so that they may be self-reliant,” said Nemavhola.
