Let Nkensi’s music keep you warm

IF YOU'RE looking for music that will keep you warm this winter, then look out for Nkhensani Nyathi, a woman born in Xigalo village in Malamulele.

LIMPOPO – IF YOU’RE looking for music that will keep you warm this winter, then look out for Nkhensani Nyathi, a woman born in Xigalo village in Malamulele.

Inspired by the style of 90’s group Boom Shaka, Nkhensi as fans know her, started singing in high school in 1995, performing during school events. “I loved Boom Shaka’s fashion, music and energy. I’m a great dancer as well so I knew their music was everything I wanted to do,” says Nkhensi.

Her first album was a mix of dancehall and pandza (a genre popular in Mozambique) and was titled More Fire.

The album received an overwhelming response from several stations.

“Over time I fell in love with African music in general, so I eventually got into Xitsonga traditional music,” Nkhensi adds.

Produced by legendary musicians, Benny Mayengani and Prince Rhangani and managed by her husband, Ronald, Nkhensi finally took a leap of faith and left her IT job to venture into music full time. Nkhensi has released a new album, her first completely traditional Xitsonga (Xibelani) album. The first single is gaining popularity with listeners and gets good radio airplay.

The full album is due mid-June and has something to captivate all age groups. So says her producer, Mayengani, urging fans to give it support. He promises that the album has everything you need to listen to during parties and family events.
