Bail granted to aunt of battered baby

THE 2-year-old girl, Katlego Khosa from Mufeba village near Elim, who sustained horrific injuries while in the care of her aunt, was discharged from the Mankweng Hospital and reunited with her blind mother last Thursday.

LIMPOPO – THE 2-year-old girl, Katlego Khosa from Mufeba village near Elim, who CV reported on in January after she sustained horrific injuries while in the care of her aunt, was discharged from the Mankweng Hospital and reunited with her blind mother last Thursday.

Her aunt, Ivy Mulaudzi from Maila village near Louis Trichardt, was granted bail of R1 500 by the Tshitale magistrate’s court in March after spending a few months in the police cells.

Bail was granted on condition that she did not set foot in Mufeba village, where little Katlego lived with her mother.

According to Makhado police spokesperson, Const Irene Radzilani, Mulaudzi was pregnant when she was arrested and she gave birth to a baby girl at the Vhufuli Hospital on February 18.

Because Mulaudzi wanted time to consult a traditional healer regarding a condition her baby was suffering from, the court decided to give her time, and then decide on the date of her next appearance, Radzilani explained.

Katlego’s mother, Veronica Khosa, said she was happy that her baby was back home, but she was still angry with Mulaudzi.

“I’m spending my grant money taking my baby to the doctor and pharmacist to treat her wounds. I prayed day and night for God to save my baby. I was supposed to save money for Katlego’s schooling,” she said.

“I was told that the court would call and give me the date of the next court appearance,” Khosa said.

Katlego’s uncle, Collin Khoza, said he would be happy when justice was done.
