R20 000 dagga, chicken feed recovered by police

THE Ritavi police outside Tzaneen arrested four people in connection with two separate incidents after they were allegedly found in possession of a large amount of dagga and suspected stolen chicken feed worth thousands of rands.

TZANEEN – THE Ritavi police outside Tzaneen arrested four people in connection with two separate incidents after they were allegedly found in possession of a large amount of dagga and suspected stolen chicken feed worth thousands of rands.

Tzaneen cluster police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, said in the first incident the police arrested two suspects aged 28- and 41 years while they were allegedly transporting eight bags of dagga near Nkowankowa in the early hours of last Friday morning.

According to Ngoepe, it was not yet known where the dagga was from and the matter was still being investigated.

He further said the estimated street value of the dagga was over R10 000. The suspects were expected to appear before the Ritavi magistrate’s court soon to face charges of possession of dagga.

“We appeal to people not to buy stolen goods from the streets as that increases the level of crime in our neighbourhood”

In the second incident, two suspects aged 34- and 40 years were arrested by the police after they were allegedly found in a chicken feed warehouse in Nkowankowa loading bags of chicken feed into two bakkies.

Ngoepe said the suspects were arrested and the value of the chicken feed that was loaded on the bakkies was estimated at about R10 000.

He said the two vehicles and bags of chicken feed were confiscated by the police to be used as evidence.

The suspects would appear before the Ritavi magistrate’s court soon on charges of housebreaking and theft at a business, he said.

“We appeal to people not to buy stolen goods from the streets as that increases the level of crime in our neighbourhood.”
