ELIM – A HUMAN skeleton was discovered in the bushes at Mashau Thondoni village near Elim last Thursday and two families have claimed that the deceased could be a relative.

The families requested the Levubu police to do DNA tests.

Levubu police spokesperson, WO Solly Mkhola, said the skeleton was discovered by women fetching firewood in the bush. He said the deceased was wearing blue trousers and a colourful checked T-shirt.

“The bones were taken for DNA tests in Pretoria and it is still premature to tell if the deceased was male or female. We are attending to the two families claiming to be the relatives of the deceased, and we have opened an inquest,” Mkhola said.

In another incident, in Valdezia, Waterpoort, the Chauke family are looking for their father, Piet Chauke (95), who was last seen on March 24 this year at home in the evening. “Later we found the door open and he was not in the house. His clothes were in the house and it means he is naked wherever he is. We opened a missing person case at the Waterval police station.

The police dog unit came to search for two days, March 27 and 28, but didn’t find him. Community members started searching until today and didn’t find him. It is shocking because the old man can’t a walk long distances but he is nowhere to be found,” said his daughter, Ellen Chauke.

Anyone with information can contact the police at (015) 556 8000 or Chauke’s daughter at 076 772 8980.

• In another case, the missing Mosa Wiseman Maluleke from Chavani village was found alive in Gauteng last Thursday. His family said they were thankful for the support of the community.
