Unqualified audit finding for CDM for 2013/14

THE Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) has received an unqualified audit finding for the financial year 2013/14.

THE Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) has received an unqualified audit finding for the financial year 2013/14.

An unqualified audit outcome means that the Auditor-General (AG) is satisfied that CDM’s books are sound and that every cent that has been spent can be accounted for. It also means that CDM’s annual performance report is credible and that the district has complied with all applicable laws and regulations.

“There is a lot of work, skills and expertise that goes into achieving a clean audit. It is not merely about accounting. It is about accountability,” municipal manager, Ngoako Molokomme, explained.

He said the good audit outcome is a fulfilment of the district’s commitment to their Operation Clean Audit goals thanks to a combination of sound financial management, leadership, strong political will, rigorous monitoring, as well as open, ethical and transparent administration.

In his audit findings, the AG found that CDM’s financial statements presented fairly, in all material respects, the financial position and the financial performance of the Capricorn District Municipality as at June 30.

The AG did not identify any significant deficiencies in the Municipality’s internal controls.

CDM mayor, Gilbert Kganyago, said the unqualified audit opinion follows prudent compliance with the financial and audit management systems and processes.

“Our aim is to make sure the outcome is strongly connected with accelerated and tangible service provision to the rural and poor communities in our district.

“Having achieved improved audits performance the next step is to match this outcome with resolute determination to fight against corruption and lacklustre performance by public service employees. This will enable CDM to be a champion of the rural and the poor in improving their quality of living and working conditions.”
