Dixie Buys wins the Baobab golf challenge

DIXIE Buys from Polokwane won the quarterly Baobab golf challenge with 43 points at Orangedene Golf Course at the Letaba Citrus Estate in Tzaneen

DIXIE Buys from Polokwane won the quarterly Baobab golf challenge with 43 points at Orangedene Golf Course at the Letaba Citrus Estate in Tzaneen on Saturday.

For his efforts Buys took home a Mercedes Benz golf bag plus R1 400 in prize money.

Second place went to Nyiko Rikhotso from Johannesburg with 40 points a count-out. He won R800 and a mountain bike sponsored by Foodcorp Milling Division.

Third placed, also on 40 points, was Shadrack Malangana. He won R500 and a mountain bike from Foodcorp.

Nathi Sedibe, one of the tournament organisers, came fourth with 40 points on a count-out. He won R400 in cash and a 10-piece cooking pot set, but donated all his prizes to 15-year-old Thulane Mathebula, because he wanted to keep the tournament’s integrity in check.

Mathebula failed to replicate his performance of July when he won the tournament in Tzaneen.

Other winners were Gideon Botha who came fifth and won R300.

The longest drive went to Ernest Ngobeni and closest to pin went to Mike Moagi, both from Phalaborwa. They won Goldair Pedestal fans and R180 each.

The only two female contestants, Mosima Kgole from Turfloop and Hanneke Brits from Gravellotte, were rewarded with BVC stainless steel chafing dished and R150 each for their efforts.

According to the organisers, the tournament attracted a record number of golfers from as far as Gauteng, Polokwane and Phalaborwa. A total of 47 golfers competed in this tournament.

Organisers Sedibe and Phashe Mokonyane hailed the tournament as a great success.

“We want to thank Jan Brits for hosting this tournament at this magnificent and well maintained golf course at Orangedene. We also want to thank the sponsors, in particular Jon White from Mercedes Benz, who is a big supporter of this tournament,” said Mokonyane.

The next tournament will be held early next year and the venue and the date will be communicated in due course.

“We would also like to thank the players and caddies who made this tournament the success that it was,” added Mokonyane.
