359 Lufule learners can now walk tall in brand new school shoes
LEARNING at Lufule Primary School in Thohoyandou is set to change for the better, following the donation of school shoes to 359 learners by the American company, Toms Shoes.
LEARNING at Lufule Primary School in Thohoyandou is set to change for the better, following the donation of school shoes to 359 learners by the American company, Toms Shoes.
Abigail Gavens, a member of the Peace Corps, and a teacher of advanced English at Lufule Primary School, was touched by the plight of those children who had to travel to and from school without shoes.
“I approached the representatives of Toms Shoes here in South Africa to help. The company decided to give a pair of shoes to each learner in the school, and there are 359 learners,” Gavens said.
“Poverty can cause learners to have poor concentration, and we as teachers should do as much as we can to assist them,” she further said.
The principal, Sarah Ravele, was delighted that the children would each have school shoes.
The learners also expressed their delight. Gr. 7 learner, Dakalo Marandela said coming to school barefooted had not been easy.
“Now I will be able to concentrate on my school work.”
