Kanatla Ladies have their sights set on national glory

KANATLA Ladies have now shifted their focus to the Sasol National Women's Championships.

KANATLA Ladies have now shifted their focus to the Sasol National Women’s Championships.

The club is sitting pretty on top of the log standings with 12 points from four matches.

It has been smooth sailing for Mkuseli Ngodlwana’s girls this season and they won 3-0 against Moria Sweepers, courtesy of Ntsoaki Phala’s hat-trick on Sunday.

Kanatla Ladies’ first match of the season was an 8-1 drubbing of Development FC, followed by a 13-0 demolition of Retladira Ladies before thumping University of Limpopo 12-1.

Head coach of Kanatla Ladies, Mkuseli Ngodlwana, said they have their sights set beyond this domestic league. He said the players were not challenged in this league and that gave him time to prepare them for the national championships, which is still a couple of months away.

“The score line after every match shows how little competition we are getting from our opponents. Our standard is high and we need to start proving ourselves against top teams in the country,” said Ngodlwana.

Kanatla Ladies failed to reach the second round of the national championships in their last two attempts, but Ngodlwana said this year would be different.

“Our previous attempt was a learning curve for our girls. Everything was new to them and they found the going tough, This time around we want to make a strong impression.”

The Polokwane-based club will play their next league match on June 1 against Mphanama Ladies.
