FOLLOWING several months of planning, the Capricorn District Netball League has finally seen the light of day.

FOLLOWING several months of planning, the Capricorn District Netball League has finally seen the light of day.

On Saturday, 16 teams met at the Peter Mokaba netball courts to officially launch the league and compete in their first matches.

Capricorn District Netball League president, Cecilia Molokwane, said the kick-off to the league was perfect and set the tone for what would be a magnificent netball season.

She said the talent on show was amazing and she thanked the teams for turning up for the launch.

“We have registered u/10, u/15, section A and B and senior (30 years and older) teams. Netball lovers should brace themselves for a humdinger of a season. We are confident that the girls will raise the standard and keep dishing out good performances every time they step foot onto the courts,” Molokwane said.

Teams such as Tshepo, Rising Stars, Young Fighters, Extension 71 and Carvella City are among the clubs that would compete in the league

The second round of matches of the league would be played in Lebowakgomo on June 22.

The Limpopo provincial netball team, Limpopo Baobabs, will travel to the University of Pretoria for the start of the Netball Premier League on Saturday.

Baobabs will lock horns with Mpumalanga’s Sunbirds on Saturday before taking on Diamonds Netball Club from the Northern Cape on Sunday.

Molokwane, who is also the Limpopo Baobabs’ head coach said the team was ready to compete in the league.

“We are going to Pretoria to make the province proud and the girls are ready for the challenge.

“We have been waiting for an opportunity to compete against the best in the country and show what Limpopo had to offer in netball. This is a platform to have our players selected to represent the country,” she said.
