There were 175 babies born on New Year's Day in Limpopo.

THERE were 175 babies born on New Year’s Day in Limpopo.

Various government authorities visited the newborn babies in hospitals across the province.

During his visit to Seshego and Knobel Hospitals, the acting HOD of the department of health, Jimmy Ledwaba, thanked hospital personnel for ensuring that the mothers and babies were safe during delivery. “We are happy no lives were lost during this time,” he said. The department’s district executive manager, Matshike Thobejane, assured hospital personnel that the department would always support them.

He said the department knew of the hospitals’ challenges and they would be dealt with accordingly to ensure that services were delivered to the highest standards.

Joyce Mabotja, one of the mothers who gave birth to a healthy baby boy at the Seshego Hospital, said she believed her son would bring blessings to her family as he was the first in the family to be born on January 1.

Mankweng Hospital welcomed triplets, while Tshilidzini and Groblersdal Hospitals welcomed twins respectively.

C.N. Phatudi and Tshilidzini Hospitals were the first to welcome newborn babies, at midnight.
