Limpopo tour guide says coronavirus has affected his business

Anyone who depends on visitors and tourists to buy their products or pay for their services, currently suffer losses due to this virus according to him.

POLOKWANE – Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illnesses ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). We currently face these viruses in most parts of the world and from today, in the province.

With that being said, the virus has affected most businesses. Some of the businesses that have mostly been affected are tourist companies and agencies. Tourist guide, Bruce Nobela from Polokwane and owner of Nhlamulo Destinations, says his business has definitely been affected. Nhlamulo Destinations specialises in tourism management that promotes African tourist attractions for both local and international travellers.

“There is a lot of decrease in numbers of tourists. Most countries are concerned about the coronavirus and big tourism expos are being cancelled due to this unfortunate virus. I was supposed to have left for the Germany Berlin Expo on 2 March, but the expo was cancelled four days before it was set to take place.  I know that most people are not willing to travel at this stage as airports are well-known to be a contact place,” he adds.

Anyone who depends on visitors and tourists to buy their products or pay for their services, currently suffer losses due to this virus according to him.

“A lot of people have cancelled travelling completely. I must say it has affected most touring companies in a very bad way and I hope it’s just a temporary phase which will pass sooner rather than later. Most importantly, I hope and pray they find a cure as soon as possible,” he said.
