Limpopo developer creates ‘Hi-Chat’ to help users stay in touch at a lower cost
Jeff Shibani, better known as G-boy, says his data-friendly messaging app will soon be available for download
LIMPOPO – The US’ ban of Huawei users unable to use the Android mobile operating system, inspired 34-year-old Jeff Shibani from Giyani to develop Hi-Chat Messenger.
Hi-Chat Messenger is a free messaging app available for Android and other smartphone users. The app does not require a username or pin in order to be operated and works with your phone number to identify other users.
Users can easily stay in touch with their friends or families through group chat.
“Your address book is used to identify and quickly connects you with contacts who have Hi-Chat Messenger,” explained Shibani, who is also known as G-boy among his friends.
According to him, one is able to make internet calls, send and receive photos, videos, documents, and voice messages.
“When you do a video call, it does not buffer and make the video look poor and blurry, because I have made video waves transaction lighter. The platform could be a hit if marketed well, since it has been designed in such a way that it can be data-friendly compared to other popular chat platforms,” he continued saying he had done a graphic test on it which showed that the app was about 30% lower in data costs compared to other platforms.
“The test included sending equal messages on three chat platforms and observing the behaviour of the data consumption indicator graphs on each platform to see how they compare.
“I am still working on the app and when I am done, my plan is to publish it on the Google Play Store for everybody to download it,” he said.
