Limpopo teacher rewarded for going beyond the call of duty

Magangeni Primary School teacher, Mikhongelo Florence Precilla Bekwa, recently won the Excellence in Primary School Teaching Award.

LIMPOPO – Supporting Teachers For The System On The Rise was the theme for the 20th annual national teaching awards where Magangeni Primary School teacher, Mikhongelo Florence Precilla Bekwa, won the excellence in primary school teaching award.

The awards were held at Soshanguve East Secondary School recently and Bekwa walked away with a Renault Kwid, an award and a certificate.

She thanked God for making it possible for her to be where she is today. “He gave me a gift to nature the young ones and wisdom on how to do it. It is an honour for me to be recognised for my hard work of 12 years, not only by my province but nationally.

“This propels me to continue doing the excellent work to help the children of this country and beyond.”

When asked about the recipe for success, she repeated ‘hard work’. “I am dedicated to my work and go beyond the call of duty to educate the children entrusted to me. I have extra classes to assist learners with difficulties.

“I employ creative strategies so that my lessons are easily understood by learners and they can relate to them. I am an innovative teacher, patient and passionate about education.”

She encourages other teachers to use innovative strategies to educate learners.

“Let us work to the best of our ability and grab this opportunity to change the world through education. Let us go an extra mile to educate learners especially those with difficulties in learning. Through education, we can defeat some of the challenges we face in society today.”

Bekwa had a message to those who want to be educators: “Do not do it for the money but for the fulfilment of your calling. Let your love for educating drive you.”

Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga thanked the educators for nurturing and developing young people to ensure that they reach their full potential.

“Our education system is on the rise. A rise that could not have been achieved without our world-class educators. We owe a debt of gratitude to thousands of teachers who dedicate every minute of their lives to our national effort to improve learners’ outcomes and thus the standard of education as a whole.”
