Two child rapists given lengthy jail terms by Limpopo courts

The police has welcomed the hefty jail terms handed down to two men for the rape of minor girls during separate incidents.

LIMPOPO – The Mogalakwena Regional Court on Friday, 14 February, handed down four life sentences to serial rapist Bafana Macdonald Mputla (27). Mputla was convicted for the rape of three young girls, aged between 11 and 16 and an 18-year-old woman.

The rape incident took place in Extension 19 and Sekgakgapeng Village between 2016 and 2018 and during his reign of terror he would grab his victims and drag them into the bushes and rape them repeatedly. He was finally arrested in 2018 after he raped the 11-year-old victim. The case was assigned to Sgt Lesetja Frans Langa from the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit in Mokopane and the accused was brought to book shortly after the incident. He was found guilty of all four charges.

In Lephalale, a 50-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape of his 15-year-old stepdaughter by the Lephalale Regional Court on Friday, 14 February. The rape took place over a seven month period in 2016 at his home in Abbortspoort, Dubs Village in Villa Nora Policing precinct. It is only until the victim shared her ordeal with her school principal and the police together with the Department of Social Department intervened that he was arrested. The case was assigned to the investigating officer, Det Sgt Ramahuta who hard work ensured that the accused was later found guilty.

“The detectives attached to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit especially the members who were directly working on these cases are highly commended for their sterling work that saw these heartless criminals being removed from the society”, said Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Jim Ledwaba.
