Limpopo Government spokesman suspended

An attempted hi-jacking and several break-ins at his house are among the events Government Spokesman, Phuti Seloba had to endure in recent months.

POLOKWANE – Last Tuesday, Provincial Government issued a statement saying Seloba had been placed on precautionary suspension with immediate effect and he was given time in which to make representations as to why this should not be done.
Seloba, who spoke to Review, yesterday confirmed that he would oppose the statement by the Office of the Premier through the National Education, Health and Allied orkers Union (Nehawu), saying he had not been given the opportunity to make representations.
His suspension, the statement reads, “comes after several allegations of an adverse nature apportioned to Mr Seloba are said to have been made on several platforms in the past.
These allegations involve the Premier and his Members of the Executive Council (MECs). In the process of investigation, Mr Seloba will be given an opportunity to respond”.
Kenny Mativha, the Premier’s Spokesperson, said no stone would be left unturned in their investigations and that Provincial Government would appricate the time and space given to it’s organs of state and Seloba.

Seloba told Review he believed a media statement released late last Thursday about his possible suspension was defamatory and he has engaged his lawyers with the aim of laying charges.
He said on Monday, he delivered a letter asking for a list of the charges and allegations on which his precautionary suspension is based, as he couldn’t make representations based on no charges.
According to him, he had been suspended on the basis of unverifi ed allegations made by a third party, without any evidence.
He said this was procedurally unfair.
Mathivha on Monday stated that Seloba had in fact, responded to their letter, while Seloba denies this.
Seloba maintained there was no clear reason for his suspension. He said he was glad to have been given the chance “to come clean” as he was dealing with a group of people conniving against him and this investigation was long overdue.
He said he was well-trained and did his work with excellence for many years.
Seloba said he found the break-ins at his house, and the failed hi-jacking, suspicious.
The allegations against Seloba seemingly emanated from remarks by EFF Provincial Chairperson Jossey Buthane, who posted messages on social media, in which he accused Seloba of sharing details on the premier and the exco.
Seloba last week lodged an urgent application with the Polokwane High Court to stop Buthane from further posting messages about him on social media.
Judge Motsaro Semenya dismissed the application on the basis that it lacked urgency, indicating the information is already in the public sphere and there was no way to stop it, “the applicant should have come to the court immediately after seeing the posts,” he said.
