Over 1 800 people arrested so far in festive season operations

A total of 6 614 vehicles were also tested and 444 summons were issued for various contraventions

LIMPOPO – Simultaneous intelligence-driven operations which started on Monday, 25 November and ended on Tuesday, 3 December, saw the arrests of 1 860 people for various offenses.

The accused, aged between 23 and 56, face charges which included the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of drugs, contravention of Liquor Acts, contravention of Road Traffic Act, assault, public drinking, murder, rape, burglaries as well as malicious damage to property.

Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said that the operations was conducted through roadblocks, stop and searches and patrols and a total of 17 weapons, 14 firearms, 67 rounds of ammunition and 10 vehicles were seized.

6 614 vehicles were also tested and 444 summons were issued for various contraventions, he added.

These operations comprised members from the Crime Prevention Unit, the Public Order Police Unit, the Crime Intelligence Unit, K9 unit and several detectives.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba commended all the operatives and further urged them to escalate their efforts to ensure the safety of those in the province this festive season.
