Hawks clamp down on illegal activities in Limpopo
The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team arrested seven people for fraud and corruption in two separate operations this past week.
LIMPOPO – A 37-year-old driving license examiner and his 27-year-old accomplice were arrested at the Thulamela Municipality on Friday, 22 November. Spokesperson for the Hawks, Capt Matimba Maluleke explained that the Hawks were alerted about driving license examiners who are selling driving licenses to applicants in the Vhembe district. Investigations revealed that some of the examiners had colluded with driving school instructors and sold driving licenses to the applicants for R1 500 whether they passed or failed.

The duo will appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court today on charges of corruption.
In Marble Hall, five officials who are attached to a local privately-owned vehicle testing station, were arrested during a simultaneous operation.

The officials, aged between 24 and 45, are alleged to have issued roadworthy certificates for vehicles that were never brought to the station for physical examination. These officials will appear in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court today on charges of fraud.
