New coach to steer sinking Black Leopards ship

Former coach of Frees State Stars, Luc Eymael (60) is the new head coach of Black Leopards. He was announced at a media conference last Thursday at Polokwane.

LIMPOPO – He was appointed after Lionel Soccoia and his technical team parted ways last Tuesday, two days after his team’s 2-0 defeat in the Limpopo derby against Barako FC.

Saccoia joined Black Leopards four months ago and guided the Thohoyandou side to win one game, draw two and lose one in five matches in the Absa Premiership.

Eymael has signed a two year contract which was confirmed by Black Leopards’ manager, Tshifhiwa ‘Chief’ Thidiela. He revealed that the decision to appoint Eymael was reached after analysing the team’s poor record in previous matches. Leopards are currently in 12th position of the 16-team league after six matches.

Thidiela said they wanted to get the right person for the job, “rather than appoint a person for the sake of pleasing the supporters and who could not deliver the goods”.

Eymael revealed that his aim was to see Leopards win matches and become a force to be reckoned with. He stated that he has followed Black Leopards from afar for some time and that he was convinced that Leopards could be a winning team again. According to him, no reason exists why a good team such as Black Leopards should not score goals and win matches.

He said that the quality football Leopards used to play impressed him and added that he would make Leopards reclaim their lost pride.

When asked which departments would be the first to be reinforced, Eymael said that he still needed more time to see the team before he could make any recommendation to the management.
