NSPCA removes 4 Percy Fyfe SPCA members

Jaco Pieterse, Senior Inspector of the NSPCA and manager of the society's liaison division, told Bosveld this morning that the members were dismissed on the grounds of, among other things, mismanagement, animal negligence and non-compliance with the SPCA regulations.

MOKOPANE – The National Council of Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) today intervened after alleged irregularities at the Percy Fyfe SPCA branch.

Four of the six committee members were removed, including the former manager, Marcelle Maritz who formerly served as the manager.

Jaco Pieterse, Senior Inspector of the NSPCA and manager of the society’s liaison division, told Bosveld this morning that the members were dismissed on the grounds of, among other things, mismanagement, animal negligence and non-compliance with the SPCA regulations. Pieterse said the local SPCA was furthermore supposed to submit their audited financial statements by the end of July, but failed to do so.

“This was also one of the reasons why the NSPCA decided to take action and to remove the four committee members. We understand that the auditors will submit it on Friday. We are a transparent organisation. If there are any irregularities we will publicly announce it and take further steps.”

Maritz served as the former manager of the local SPCA before she was elected to Limpopo Legislature as the Freedom Front + Limpopo Leader.

She resigned as manager shortly thereafter, but continued to serve as a committee member and volunteer. Bosveld is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding these claims and will publish a full report in its next issue. We are also awaiting further comment from the parties involve.
