Hoedspruit man appears in court for unlicensed firearms, ammunition

The 32-year-old man was arrested at his house on Thursday, 12 September.

LIMPOPO – The arrest was affected  during an Intelligence Led Joint Operation conducted jointly by members of the Crime intelligence Unit and Tactical Response Team(TRT), focusing on people in possession of unlicensed firearms.

Police Spokesperson, Const Maphure Manamela says on the day the police tracked the accused to his house on a farm outside Hoedspruit at around 10:00. During a search of the property the police found two pistols with six rounds of ammunition and sachets of dagga.

The man was arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and possession of dagga. He appeared before the Hoedspruit Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 16 September and his case were postponed to 23 September, for further police investigations. He remains in custody.

Manamela adds that the firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if they were used in the commission of serious and violent crimes.

“The police are on a mission to fight and prevent all incidents of violent crimes, through operational measures derived from various Police Units, by ensuring all firearms are recovered from the criminals,” she concluded.
