Two rhino horns recovered during the arrest of three poachers

The men were arrested after a rhino was shot and killed at a farm in the Rankin's Pass area outside Modimolle.

LIMPOPO – Three men were arrested in the Rankin’s Pass and Vaalwater areas respectively, while two more are still on the run following a joint operation by police, private security and farmers in the Modimolle and Vaalwater areas. 

The three men, between the ages of 31 and 37-years-old were arrested on Wednesday, 4 September after a rhino was shot and killed by the alleged poachers and two horns removed at a farm in the Rankin’s Pass area outside Modimolle.

Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe says: “Two other suspects are still on the run but they were identified and a manhunt is still underway. During the arrest, one motor vehicle, two rhino horns, one hunting rifle with a silencer, eight rounds of ammunition and an axe were recovered,” he noted. 

The trio will appear in the Vaalwater and Modimolle Magistrate’s courts, soon.
