Muni: Report billing errors here

There is no such thing as incorrect billing and residents can report what they regard as faulty bills to the relevant department.

LIMPOPO – This is the view of Thipa Selala, Spokesperson for the Polokwane Municipality, in view of a complaint BONUS recently received.

Vincent Lind, a local resident, claims he was billed for six months’ usage in one month. “For six months, the municipality did not take any readings and then they billed it all in one month. Furthermore, the reading on the meter and the bill didn’t correspond either.”

He said on top of this, the additional charge incurred should not be for his account. According to Lind, he has on various occasions approached the municipality, to no avail.

“After not receiving any response, I went there twice during my lunch hour but due to my time constraints I never got to the relevant department before I had to return to work.”

Selala said residents can report billing errors at the customer care counters in the rates hall, Civic Centre, or via e-mail at billingc@polokwane.gov.za, or any satellite office or per telephone (015) 290 2679/2680/2681/2684.

“If it is an over billing or estimation problem, we correct the account and bill the actual usage.”

Residents are urged to investigate for leaks, which could be the reason for the high water bills. They also have to ensure access to the meters and compare the readings on the account with the reading on the meter.
