SA Meme Team are the voices of Polokwane

They took matters into their own hands and started a YouTube channel to tell and show everyone what Polokwane is capable of.

POLOKWANE – The SA Meme Team are made up of people who studied outside of the city, but managed to come together as ‘the voices of Polokwane.’

Although they were in different places at different times, some in Johannesburg, Pretoria and one as far as KwaZulu-Natal, they all had similar experiences. People around them thought and assumed that Polokwane and Limpopo as a whole, is rural and does not know a lot in terms of media.

They took matters into their own hands and started a YouTube channel to tell and show everyone what Polokwane is capable of.

The team consists of Patricia Mampuru, Kaizer ‘Rockey’ Mokgobu, Mantikana Gold, Stanley Marishane and Pebetse Maja. “The channel is about representing us and our beautiful city. We want to show people that we are in tune with modern times, smart and articulate, opinionated about popular culture, diverse and most importantly talented,” Kaizer said.

The team started the YouTube channel in June. “We also want to spread laughter, good vibes and energy. There is a lot of negativity going on in this world. Life is too short, so let’s live it positively, sometimes people just want to smile,” Kaizer said.

When they met as a group to brainstorm, Kaizer came up with the idea after he noticed that Stanley garnered a large amount of followers on his Facebook, by posting memes daily. “We decided to do what Stanley was doing, but in video form, because audiences engage with moving visuals more than they do with still images. Though the saying goes, ‘a pictures says a thousand words,’ videos tells the whole story,” Kaizer added.

The team targets young South Africans, because they feel that they can relate to what they are trying to do. The team urged others who would like to start a channel to do their research, form a team, make a plan, shoot their story line, edit their videos and post the finished product.
