Regarding the Maja Complex, Nkadimeng said the reason for the project's roll-over was the termination of the contract between the department and previous contractor as they found work to not be up to standard.

During the 2018/19 financial year, only two projects were not completed she said, referring to the Maja Sports Complex and the Mankweng Sports Complex. Regarding the Maja Complex, Nkadimeng said the reason for the project’s roll-over was the termination of the contract between the department and previous contractor as they found work to not be up to standard.

Due processes were met in the termination process, she said. She said an application was brought to receive the funds that had been returned to National Treasury at the end of the financial year, which included that of the Mankweng project.

The total budget for the Maja sports project was divided into the three phases, with phase one budgeted at R16 million.

She says there were no funds lost due to the termination and re-appointment of a new contractor.

“The previous contractor was only paid for the work he did”.

A new contractor has been appointed and is currently on- site going ahead with phase one. The construction is expected to be completed by the next financial year as all three phases are allocated one financial year each.

The Mankweng Sports Complex is still in its preliminary stages. All administrative duties are expected to be completed and the contractor on site by 1 September.
