Suspect arrested in connection with slain Lebowakgomo teen; remanded in custody

The 36-year-old security guard was arrested after Boshelo Petja (18) was shot and killed during a protest near the Dithabaneng Mine

POLOKWANE – A 36-year-old security guard at the Dithabaneng Mine appeared before the Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 25 July, on a charge of murder.

His arrest follows the death of the 18-year-old, Boshelo Petja, who was shot and killed during protest action near the mine in Ga-Mphahlele area, under the Lebowakgomo policing precinct.

Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe says conflict arose between security guards and the community, resulting in shots fired.

The man is expected to apply for bail on Tuesday, 30 July.
