Murder suspects found in possession of police radios

Three suspects wanted for hijacking crimes committed in the Burgersfort Policing Cluster, were arrested on Friday, 29 June.

LIMPOPO – These suspects were arrested during an intelligence driven operation composed of the Burgersfort Crime Intelligence unit, the Organized Crime Detectives, Tubatse, Mecklenburg and Sekhukhune Detectives.

In a statement released, Police spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe said the units followed up on information about these suspects and stopped them along the road and searched their vehicle.

During the search the police recovered several firearms, two police hand radios, explosives and detonators, a metal detector and grinders. The origin and destination of the recovered items will still be determined by ongoing police investigations.

Preliminary police investigations have since linked these suspects to incidents of carjacking in the Tubatse policing area and murder committed in the Ohrigstad policing area, said Ngoepe.

The suspects will soon appear before the Burgersfort Magistrate’s Court on charges of hijacking, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and possession of suspected stolen properties.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has praised the police who continue working hard to reclaim public safety in the province and encouraged residents of the province to continue working with the police to aid the fight to reach a crime-free environment.
