Suspected drug lord arrested, drugs worth thousands confiscated during drug bust in Tzaneen

LIMPOPO – A 33-year-old suspected drug lord was arrested on Tuesday (25 June) for the manufacturing and concocting of drugs during a drug operation conducted in the Tzaneen Policing area, Police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe confirmed in a statement on Wednesday.

The operation which comprised of the Tzaneen Cluster Crime Intelligence Unit, the Saps Tzaneen Crime Prevention and the K9 unit, uncovered the said drug lab at a house on a plots located on the outskirts of the central business district of Tzaneen.

“During the search three live shotgun rounds and a high quantity of dagga and mushrooms, which were in the processed stage, were discovered. The estimated value of the recovered drugs is around R200 000. Three live rounds for a shotgun were also recovered during the operation,” said Ngoepe in the statement.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of manufacturing drugs and possession of unlicensed ammunition. The Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General Jan Scheepers  has since applauded the police for their commitment in the fight against the mushrooming of drugs in the province and says the police will continue to fight the war against drugs until Limpopo is a drug-free province.
